Handicap debate!

Posts from fellow bloggers...have your say...DEMOCRACY RULES!

Alan has left a new comment on your post "Handicaps":

This should have happened ages ago, any score of 40 + goes thru the computer, equally any score of say 28 or worse goes thru to get point 1 back.
This would eliminate the need for separate swindle handicaps for players having a purple patch & also even out salver matches without the need to argue over full or 3/4 difference.
Your handicap is supposed to be your average score - not your best or worse, how can your handicap be correct if only around 1 card every 8 rounds of golf is used for the calculation?

I would agree that anyone scoring 40+ points in general play should have their handicap adjusted (does this mean I'll be getting a new one for the Spring Cup?), likewise agree with Alan that scores below an agreed number in the 20's get .1 back.

I would suggest 24 points however, since this score suggests someone is maybe struggling with their game (having also been down there as well on more than one occasion, I should know!), rather than just having an off day on a friendly fixture, when your focus is probably not at the same level as a competition round.

Although I don't have any figures to back this up, I would also think a 24- score probably happens as often as a 40+ one, so you are getting a balance in handicap adjustments either way.
