Gerry, I think your'e right about the swindle being handicapped and a suggestion is how my society achieve it:
If you take yesterday's scores (the middle scores are guessed )
1st Alan 40
2nd Septic39
3rd Other 36
4th Other 35
5th Other 34
6th Other 34
7th Other 33
8th Other 32
9th Other 31
10th Other 30
11th Arfur 28
12th Krankie 1 28
Take out top 2 & bottom 2 , add remaining together and divide to get average (33) this is the average score of the day,
Every one who scores above the average (33) are cut point1,2,3 or 4 depending on their category for every point over the average and all players lower than the average get point 1,2,3 or 4 back for every point under the average.
This means that after yesterday the revised handicaps for next swindle are:
alan 15.7 - minus 7 x.point 3 = 13.6
septic 17.8 - minus 6 x point3 = 16.0
? - minus 3 x point 1,2,3 or 4 = ?
4th minus 2 x point " " "
5th minus 1 x point " " "
6th minus 1 x point " " "
7th no change
8th plus 1 x point " " "
9th plus 2 x point " " "
10th plus 3 x point " " "
11th plus 5 x point " " "
Stuart 13 - plus 5 x point 3 = 14.5
Any player who plays but doesn't have a swindle handicap cannot take the money but his score on that day will give him a handicap to use next time based on his finishing position.
If you score above the average it is unlikely you will repeat it next week but with say the top 6 getting cut & maybe bottom 6 getting shots back each week it becomes very competitive after a few weeks as everybody has had some form of adjustment.
your swindle handicap stays with you just like your club handicap.
I know it would be easier to just cut the winners but it still means e.g Krankie would probably never win off his current handicap for months on end and this gives him the incentive to keep entering,
The average score of the day also wouldn't differentiate between red & blue giving those that play blue 1 week the opportunity to get shots back then utilise their new handicap playing red.
Thoughts please fellow Swindlers!
I think this is as fair as you can get, we need someone to do the handicaps......Five Bellies!
